Huron Natural Play Space Grand Opening at Earth Day Celebration

On Saturday April 30th, the City of Kitchener celebrated Earth Day and the grand opening of the Natural Play Space at Huron Natural Area. Mayor Barry Vrbanovic and Councillor Kelly Galloway-Sealock led the official ribbon-cutting ceremony along with hundreds of families. The Huron natural play space, which sits next to a forested area and nature trails, is open to the public. For students at nearby schools, the playground is a welcome addition to the neighbourhood as a new place to play and learn!  To provide challenge for children of all ages, the playground design includes both large and small log jam climbers as well as a hill slide, sand pit with water pump and plenty of seating for parents and caregivers. Because of these design details, this playground has a lot to offer visitors.

The beauty of the natural wood climbers ties in remarkably well with the natural surroundings. These pieces are left unstained in their natural glory to be enjoyed and admired for years to come. Kids – and adults! – had tons of fun exploring the new play space and spending time outdoors with friends, family, and neighbours. An amazing day, and an awesome way to celebrate Earth Day!
